Morning Gripes 08Jun07

paris-pretty-mugshotFirst up, Paris Hilton. I love Paris - I think she is fabulously entertaining, super stylish and probably a spoiled brat. But I also think she is incredibly astute where her career is concerned. Girl can take care of herself. Why these gals don’t use drivers when they are clubbing is beyond me, I sure would, but otherwise I think Paris is a pretty cool chick. I was somewhat impressed that she went to county instead of the country club jail, yep I was. This recent turn of events however is not impressive. How much did they pay someone off to let her out of jail and into that big punishing 52 bazillion dollar Hilton estate? Because her doctor said she wasn’t doing well in jail??? Who DOES well in jail - thats the point of the damn thing - you’re not SUPPOSED to want to be there (or come back!). Thats just wrong. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.

Update: I am glad to see that someone realized the error of their ways. Or someones ways. Paris is in the country club now, but hopefully she really HAS learned a lesson or two now. Wonder how many days she will serve - anyone want to make a wager? ;)

isaiah-washingtonSecond - Isaiah Washington has been let go from Greys Anatomy. It’s about friggin time. It’s a little anticlimactic now, but I guess its a good thing. Here is what Isaiah says:

“I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore”

Get over yourself. You’re lucky you weren’t booted on the spot. Don’t you know everyone in Hollywood is gay, and your bigotry *might* be an issue? You’ve carried on long enough. Next.

Here are some facts about the 1500s:

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, Don’t throw the baby out with the Bath water.

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying …It’s raining cats and dogs.
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house.. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That’s how canopy beds came into existence.

After what happened to my hubby the other day in Houston, this video has a bit more meaning - it can happen to you, and it will if you’re not careful.  Take care of your stuff…

I Hate Yellow. 12May07

This is a little nutty - and not such a great test, methinks.  Not that I’m not incredibly perceptive and smart, of course. ;)

YELLOW

You are very perceptive and smart. You are clear and to the point and have a great sense of humor. You are always learning and searching for understanding.

Find out your color at QuizMeme.com!

But Hsien isn’t calm and peaceful either. ;)

Pardon the Rant 04May07

crackheads gone wildI knew this was gonna be a bad day. I woke up at 4 am with horrible back pain for no reason - then things got good, and I had a nice productive morning. Left at noon for some shopping with Mom, then got a call from my hubby who got robbed in Houston. The crackheads broke out his car window while he was in a store and stole his briefcase - Laptop, the entire project he was working on, all his cool techno gadgets (except his MP3 player which he accidentally left in the beach bag last weekend - w00t!), the checkbook and probably most importantly, his medicine and insulin and that damned expensive blood glucose tester. All in the name of a couple rocks. Bastards.

Think CVS pharmacy was helpful in getting his prescriptions transferred from the other store? Not. And our doctor’s office is closed on Friday afternoon. Oy. But Wells Fargo was helpful and nice, so two snaps up for them. ;) What a pain in the ass. The high point is that Marshall was on his way to the Houston airport to go to Chicago for some “training” he didn’t need, and now he doesn’t have to go. But I had lots of work scheduled for the weekend since he was going to be out of town, so we will see how that goes. Aaron, I promise I will try my darndest to get the Tech channel done so we can still say it took one week. :)

Busy Week Ahead 01Apr07

road-runnerWe had the best weekend - it was soooooo beautiful outside, and we did lots of fun yard work - planted flowers, mowed with the groovy new John Deere (yessssssssss!), got our redneck pool set up. Ryan was on spring break and was here, and we just hung out and had a blast. Marshall is working in Texas City for the next couple of months, so he is getting home early on Fridays and leaving late on Sundays - it is a very nice change. ;) I sat and watched a roadrunner for about 15 minutes today in the front yard - they are SUCH cool birds - and their mannerisms are just like the cartoon Road Runner. :)

I had a cigarette breakdown, and had one in an otherwise empty pack in my purse last night. I spent the evening pondering when I was going to smoke it, either that night, or save it for the morning. So, I got up out of bed last night about 11, went for my *one* cig, and pulled it out of the pack and it had some flower stickers on it and a message - April Fools! It took me a minute to figure out that Zoe had thrown it away and replaced it with a rolled up piece of paper. OMG I thought I would kill her. Addiction sucks.

So, this week I have soooooo much going on. Next Sunday (Easter), I leave for Toronto. My dearest Suzzann is coming on Thursday from Nashville for a week and a half visit, and to watch my kiddies for the 5 days I am gone (since my local friend had the little incident last week and is moving). I can’t wait to see Suz - and I can’t wait for Toronto too - I have never been to Canada. ;) But man, do I have a lot to do. Groceries, laundry, housecleaning, need to get my car inspected before I go, and make sure my laptop has all my work stuff properly loaded up. And I have to harass Century 21 for a letter for the tax man. And I have to finish our taxes. Oy. And scrape up some shopping money for my trip. Toronto is a shopping heaven! :) I don’t see where Jeremy planned any shopping time for me though, so I am going to have to come up with something. Not trading beer drinking night for shopping, so I guess it will have to be a meeting or something. ;)

Enough babbling, I hope you had a great weekend too!

I love to smoke?

(smoking)

Grrr.

standoff-bryan-texasMore info for posterity:

Troy Dale Garrett, 38, of Tulsa, holed himself up in a Bryan townhome for nearly nine hours while police wearing bullet-proof armor and wielding guns waited outside.

Police finally entered the house just before 8 p.m., finding him dead. Authorities would not reveal the cause of death or whether Garrett had any weapons on him.

He was found in a residence next to a relative’s house on the 2400 block of Memorial Drive. Police said they believe he moved to the neighboring home by either entering an unlocked door or crawling through the dog door in the back of the residence sometime after police initially attempted to contact him. [source]

Crimony. This “residence” is the residence of my son’s best friend, and one of my dearest too. She came home from work yesterday with the SWAT team surrounding her house. She is moving out, probably needless to say.
