Aunt Sophie 002, originally uploaded by happycplntx.
My precious Aunt Sophie took her first motorcycle ride of her 92 years today - this was truly an honor to see.
You have never met a more energetic and thrilled to be alive human being in your life. Kevin ain’t bad either.
We are heading home tomorrow for our 2 day road trip back to Texas. We have had a wonderful time and I vow that it won’t be 10 years before I see my family again. I love them all so much!!

Marshall sent this picture of an alligator (allimagator = our pet name) found at one of the refineries this week:

On the bright side, our hotel room is just dandy. No mold, mildew or anything else. The carpet was definitely laid circa 1970, but it has been very freshly cleaned. The beds are comfy and I imported a coffee pot and snacks - Noah and I are living large! Exclusive photos of the Sandhiller to come.
I BARELY have an internet connection though, so I am doing what I can when I can. Oh yeah, and we almost got tornado-ized yesterday, but it veared off just before it got to us. Praise the Lord!

Well, this may be my last interaction with technology for the next 8 days. Surely not. Surely I will be lucky enough to have internet at the Sandhiller Motel in Wray. Wray is where my mother is from, and is a teensy weensy farming town in the Northeastern corner of Colorado. No mountains here, just miles and miles and miles and miles and miles of wheat and corn fields. Which is lovely - I really do love going to Wray, and haven’t been in several years. Wray was named the “best home town in the U.S.,” 10 or so years ago, and these days their claim to fame is, well, a little nasty - they have tours to watch the prarie chickens “do their thing” during their mating season in the spring. You have to get up and out at 3 am to see this event though, so no one I know has witnessed it yet.
We are going to Wray for Mom’s family reunion on the family farm - we have had many a good time there, no doubt - I really am very excited!
So, we are staying at the Sandhiller - this is the finest motel in town, and one of about two, possibly a third. The Butte, which is the only one I have ever stayed in, has cinderblock walls and really is more like a prison cell than a hotel room. But I love it.
I just spotted a review of the Sandhiller at Yahoo:
My best advise to you is to buy a camper with a kitchen and save yourself the aggrevation by NOT doing business here. The rooms are nasty with dirty carpeting and old mold smell. When renting weekly, maid service is NOT included in the fee. On the restaurant side, the only safe meal to order is a steak. Anything else is poorly prepared & totally inedible. Too bad as there are too few places to eat in this little burg.
Hee hee - obviously he doesn’t *get* the charm of Wray. Pity. My cousins and I all adore this town. I am looking forward to staying at the fine Sandhiller myself! I am moving up in the world, getting to stay there instead of the Butte! There isn’t one photo of the Sandhiller on the entire internet, so I will be sure to make that my goal for the week. Although they claim to have internet available, I have had so many hard times getting online at MUCH more posh hotels, that I am not holding out much hope here. I hope and pray that I will not be technology-less for 8 days, but its a distinct possibility. So please don’t think I have fallen off the edge of the earth, I have just slipped into another dimension - one without computers, cell phones, Twitter, b5media or even too much beauty. I hope I can bring some of all of that to town tomorrow. If you REALLY need to reach me and my cell isn’t working and I have no internet (pleaseno), the number to the hotel is 970-332-4134 - give me a ring!
Oh, so I don’t forget - b5media hits the New York Times again tomorrow - but you can check it out now, right here. Go b5!
Have a great week everyone, if I don’t see you (*eek*)!!!

First up, Paris Hilton. I love Paris - I think she is fabulously entertaining, super stylish and probably a spoiled brat. But I also think she is incredibly astute where her career is concerned. Girl can take care of herself. Why these gals don’t use drivers when they are clubbing is beyond me, I sure would, but otherwise I think Paris is a pretty cool chick. I was somewhat impressed that she went to county instead of the country club jail, yep I was. This recent turn of events however is not impressive. How much did they pay someone off to let her out of jail and into that big punishing 52 bazillion dollar Hilton estate? Because her doctor said she wasn’t doing well in jail??? Who DOES well in jail - thats the point of the damn thing - you’re not SUPPOSED to want to be there (or come back!). Thats just wrong. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.
Update: I am glad to see that someone realized the error of their ways. Or someones ways. Paris is in the country club now, but hopefully she really HAS learned a lesson or two now. Wonder how many days she will serve - anyone want to make a wager?
Second - Isaiah Washington has been let go from Greys Anatomy. It’s about friggin time. It’s a little anticlimactic now, but I guess its a good thing. Here is what Isaiah says:
“I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore”
Get over yourself. You’re lucky you weren’t booted on the spot. Don’t you know everyone in Hollywood is gay, and your bigotry *might* be an issue? You’ve carried on long enough. Next.

I have been meaning to write about One Note for a VERY long time, but who has the time? Not I, said the fox. But, I want to at least make a mention of it while it’s on my mind this morning.
I got One Note on my computer when my step son needed it for something he was doing at school and downloaded it on my computer. Well, back to school he went (LSU), and here sat One Note. Man, is this a great program. It is a note taking software - you can add just about anything to it - plain text, web clippings, mp3 files, images, documents, spreadsheets - anything you can imagine. You organize these things in notebooks and folders, just like you would if you were in school and living in a non-geeky world. I upgraded to One Note 2007 as soon as it became available, and it was a massive improvement mostly in the organizational options. Whereas in the older version you could only easily have one notebook (with folders within), you can now have multiple notebooks (aligned vertically along the left hand side below), which really suits me since I wear so many hats these days.

This has been truly a lifesaver for me. One Note can be set up on two computers and with just a little bit of configuration will sync itself - so it is on my desktop, that I use most often, and on my laptop, where all the information can stay current, and I can hit the road without fear of not having everything I need. I use OneNote mostly for my b5media work, where I have it organized into a notebook with all of my various non-content related projects, one notebook for the content team, another for channel editors, another for the Beauty & Style channel, one for Blogging, and one for all my personal stuff. Pages and sections are easy to move and copy from notebook to notebook - this is the perfect organizational program to me. And One Note 2007 is a much improved version, so definitely spring for that one. If you have Office 2007 and have just ignored the One Note packaged in with it, open it up - you might find it to be a great tool like I have, whether you have 92,000 projects to keep up with or just one.
I got an interesting comment on my Dell Hell post, from GH who writes:
Well, it appears consumers are making their choices known:
http://www.techspot.com/news/23261-hp-surpasses-dell-in-3q-shipments.html
I’ve also heard that the high & mighty Michael Dell has come out of retirement, returned to his former company and plans to turn things around. Time will tell, and in my opinion, this will be a rather hefty undertaking. Dell’s reputation has really gone down the drain these past couple of years.
I continue to sell Sony, HP and Apple computers in my business….staying completely away from Dell.
Michael Dell came out of retirement in January and has supposedly made big steps to improve their customer service (including a recent layoff of 8,000 employees) and other things that led to hp overtaking them in sales towards the end of last year. Sadly for them (not that they care about lil ol me), I bought a new laptop a few weeks ago after my hubby’s was stolen (I love it - his gets stolen and *I* get a new laptop - coolness!), and just so happened to pick an hp. Aaron had recommended hp a long time ago (before he became a Mac fanboy), so that was my first look and final choice. It didn’t hurt that it was super cool and all white (special edition) and had a built in webcam and microphone (all the Mac features I have been envious of without none of the PITA of changing to an unknown OS).
So, good luck to Dell in making improvements, I hope they do. But the convenience of being able to run out and purchase and take home immediately an hp far outshines the 2-3 weeks of waiting for a Dell, and certainly the bad taste that still sits in my mouth from our experience with Dell’s customer service. What used to be a household of 5 Dells and 4 Dell cheerleaders now sits at two remaining Dells living out the end of their useful lives, one Lenovo, one Gateway and one hp. Lenovo and hp have the Jones fanclub at this point. Partially because Lenovo sent out a HAWT tech guy to the house one day. Ha - I am so easily swayed.
Now, I hope hp’s customer service doesn’t go the way of Dell’s. And I really hope I never have problems with my laptop so I don’t ever have to find out how it compares. And at the very least, I hope they send out hot tech guys.
