Would you believe that our beautiful 5 day old baby donkey got in with the horses we were keeping for our cousin in Houston, and was trampled to death last night. I am so sad for her and her momma. Boy it has been a deathly week or two for us around here, I hope that this will end now.
We are battening down the hatches here for Hurricane Rita, which is headed right in our direction I guess. Although we are 150 miles from the coast, apparently this is one of the top 3 most intense hurricanes in recorded history, and at the moment anyway, it is headed straight for us. My brother in law, Eric (he is such a dear) brought us the generator from the camphouse (after all, it IS ours..LOL), and chained together an iffy tree in our yard. But if the winds get that bad here, I am pretty sure it will snap that chain like a dry twig! Good news–Marshall is flying home tonight from North Carolina, rather than trying to get here tomorrow night.
I waited in a line to fill up our water jugs yesterday, and got the last drops out of the Glacier machine. That poor woman behind me, I felt terrible. Then I felt like I was going to get jumped dragging those water jugs back to the car! The gas lines were horrendous most places, but I found one with no line at all. And milk. LOL The kids and I cannot live without milk for long, will probably have to restock tomorrow, if we can. LOL
I need to:
- go through the yard and pick up everything under 50 pounds and get it into the garage
- get the catfood cage off of the floor in the garage-I guess bring it into the house, I dont see myself letting my 15 kitties brave the storm out there
- get the dog food in the house
- burn the feed bags, or they will be blown all over creation tomorrow–Juan is here though, maybe I will get him to haul them off–going now to check with him about that–it is awfully dry here, although I think that will change pretty quickly…
